WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (10.07.13) — “Gravity” Easily Floats To #1
0
Beating “Paranormal Activity 3,” “Gravity” has set a new October premiere record with $55.5 million in its opening weekend. Not only that, but it came in well above all the estimates of last week which had the film coming in around $35 million. At number two, “Cloudy 2” continues to do well pulling in another $21.5 million. Unfortunately, that is pretty much the only good news from the box office this weekend. Premiering at number 3 was “Runner Runner” with just $7.6 million, making the $30 million dollar budget seem like a incredibly tough mountain to climb. At number 4 “Prisoners” made $4.7 million bringing its total to $47.8 million. And bringing up the rear this weekend was Ron Howard’s “Rush” which made only $4.4 in it’s third weekend, despite the film’s positive reviews.
