〉 Zahler previously appeared on the 2011 and 2012 Hit Lists.
The Vince Vaughn-starring actioner BRAWL IN CELL BLOCK 99 has added three to its cast as it heads closer to production: Udo Kier, Fred Melamed, and Geno Segers will join Vaughn and previously cast Don Johnson in the thriller from Bone Tomahawk scribe S. Craig Zahler. Zahler is directing from his own script.
The story is centered around a former boxer who, in desperation, works as a drug courier and winds up in jail where his enemies force him to commit acts of violence.
XYZ Films will produce with Dallas Sonnier, Jack Heller, Greg Zuk through Caliber Media. Marco Henry will executive produce.
Kier is the veteran actor who recently appeared in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac: Volume 1 and Melancholia. He is also cast in the John Keeyes directed supernatural horror The Gathering. Kier recently wrapped on Alexander Payne’s latest film Downsizing. He is repped by Players Agentur Management and Richard Schwartz Management.
Melamed previously appeared in Zahler’s Bone Tomahawk. Melamed is mostly known for his comedic roles, from Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sisters to the Coen Brothers flick Hail, Caesar!. His recent credits include the Netflix comedy Lady Dynamite and the Hulu series Casual. He is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Haven Entertainment.
Like Melamed, Segers also appeared in Bone Tomahawk. He may be best known for his work on the Cinemax series Banshee and has additionally appeared on the Netflix series Longmire, ABC’s Castle, and MTV’s Teen Wolf. He is repped by DPN Talent.
Zahler, whose spec for Bone Tomahawk landed on the 2012 Hit List, made his feature directorial debut with the gritty Western. His buzzy specs The Brigands of Rattleborge and The Big Stone Grid, the latter of which made the 2011 Hit List, are currently in development. He was also brought on to script the Puppet Master remake for Di Bonaventura Pictures and adapt his own novel Mean Business on North Ganson Street for Leonardo Di Caprio, who is also attached to star. Ridley Scott recently sighed on to helm the adaptation of Zahler’s novel Wraiths of the Broken Land. Zahler is repped by UTA and Caliber Media.
Production is expected to start in September.
