The adaptation trend continues with TNT’s Animal Kingdom, based on the 2010 Australian thriller of the same name. TNT’s crime syndicate is set smartly in Oceanside, California and helmed by John Wells Productions, of Shameless and The West Wing fame.
Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough, and Martin Short have signed on for NBC’s Hairspray Live!. The TV event takes place in 1962 Baltimore and follows Tracy Turnblad, who wins a role on TV and becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters.
Pearl Mackie has won the role of the new companion opposite Peter Capaldi on Doctor Who for the 10th season. This is Mackie’s first major television role.
Jessica Henwick has won the lead female role as martial arts expert Colleen Wing in Netflix Marvel series Iron Fist. Plus, SNL alum Brooks Wheelan books a regular role on the Shondaland comedy Toast, and more in today’s TV casting round-up!
