Jesse Alexander, a writer/producer who previously worked with Fuller on Hannibal and Star Trek: Discovery, will take over on a brand new second season, executive producing with American Gods novel author Neil Gaiman.

“As you can see, we are having some trouble getting the second season underway,” Chris Albrecht said during his executive session at the Television Critics’ Association’s winter press tour.

Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, who adapted the Neil Gaiman fantasy novel for Starz, are leaving the show midway into Season 2.

Starz CEO and President Chris Albrecht said there is no end in sight for Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods, though the ambitious nature of the show makes it difficult to pin down to a regular schedule. The show has been renewed for Season 2 but has no return date yet.

With HBO’s Game of Thrones and Netflix’s GLOW out of the running, we’ve been discussing the possible nominees, so here are our picks.

Season 1, Episode 8 – You guys, this episode was one of my favorite episodes of television history. All is finally revealed for Shadow, who finally learns the true extent of Mr. Wednesday’s power, Laura receives a revelation that will leave us wondering if this story will be able to continue forwards this season, AND the New Gods stop playing nice.

Season 1, Episode 7 – This week we get the origin story to one of our angry magical friends. Also, Laura and the leprechaun begin a new phase in their relationship when the leprechaun is faced with a huge decision.

Season 1, Episode 6 – Mr. Wednesday’s crusade of rounding up Gods for his war, lands him and Shadow in a disturbingly gun obsessed town that looks the embodiment of a Trump rally. Meanwhile, Laura becomes more desperate to see Shadow, and I just wish she would go rot somewhere. This has been my favorite episode yet.

Season 1, Episode 5 – This week on American Gods Mr. Wednesday and Shadow are finally confronted by their biggest enemies. Meanwhile, it doesn’t look like a certain someone is getting their coin back any time soon.

Season 1, Episode 4 – This week on American Gods we get some surprising backstory on a newly undead character. After watching this week, I’ve got a feeling Shadow has much more to worry about than the new God/old God war.

Season 1, Episode 3 – We continue our American Gods road trip this week by getting even closer to Gods then we’ve ever been. Meanwhile Shadow begins to question his purpose (and what exactly is going on), when Mr. Wednesday has them rob a bank. Shadow is also surprised when he’s haunted by his passed.

Last night the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills in conjunction with GLAAD hosted an early screening of American Gods episode three along with a discussion and Q&A with various cast and crew, which highlighted how the show depicts its diversity as well as it does.

Season 1, Episode 2 – This week on American Gods, Shadow dives deeper in Mr. Wednesday’s world, when he’s approached by another unfriendly new god. Later, Shadow and Mr. Wednesday end up a bit over their heads (literally) when they make the wrong deal with a man who was supposed to be an ally. Do you homework people, that makes these episodes even more intriguing to watch.

Season 1, Episode 1 – The premiere episode of American Gods will shock you with its stunning visuals but vague premise. Although us viewers are thrown into the deep-end of this novel turned TV show, if episode one is any indication of what’s to come, we’re truly in for some groundbreaking storytelling.
