In a reprieve to what has been a quiet broadcast spec pilot market as of late, NBC has bought THE ARK, a high-concept drama spec from 20th Century Fox TV and ImageMovers. The drama comes from two-time Hit List scribe Daniel Kunka. Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke will executive produce with Jackie Levine for ImageMovers and Adam Kolbrenner and Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse Entertainment.
The story centers on an engineer who, after the death of his wife, has a vision to construct a ship capable of sustaining life in space. When the build happens to coincide with the coming end of the world, the engineer realizes there may be a larger story at play.
The drama was in development with Fox 21 TV Studios as a prospective cable series until it was determined to be a better fit for network.
12 Rounds scribe Kunka was previously featured on the 2014 Hit List and Black List for his spec Yellowstone Falls and the 2015 Hit List and Black List for his The Battle of New Orleans, an adaptation of Winston Groom’s Patriotic Fire. Yellowstone Falls sold to Covert Media, while Battle sold to Endurance Media. His pitch Crime of the Century is currently in active development at Universal Pictures and his spec The Bermuda Triangle is in development at Warner Bros.
Kunka is repped by ICM and Madhouse Entertainment.
