The Launch Pad Manuscript Competition Presents…
Title: LAZARUS
Logline: A police chief’s daughter and her boyfriend make the perfect small town detective team. The only problem? The boyfriend is a ghost and the town is in the thick of a murder spree.
Pitch: VERONICA MARS meets GHOST
Writer: Maryanne Melloan Woods
Genre: Drama | Mystery | Supernatural
Why to Read: This manuscript has a fantastic premise that could easily be adapted to a procedural TV series, utilizing its ghostly mythology and creepy atmosphere to tell truly engaging stories. The central mystery, related back to the unsolved murder of our protagonist’s mother, is undeniably compelling, packed with unpredictable twists and a pervading creepiness. Still, the relationship between the two leads is so realistic, relatable, and emotional that it’s hard not to feel at home while reading. Their love, problems, and conflicts are touching and nuanced, and it only helps that they are surrounded by supporting characters that also feel distinct. All of this adds up to a world that feels fleshed out and real, utilizing a Prairie Gothic sensibility to examine the wide open landscape and the dark, seedy underbelly of the haunted town.
